Brazil wins 4 games on the 1st day of the GOABALL Americas Championship

Brazil was overwhelming on the first day of the Goalball Americas Championship, at the Paralympic Training Center (CTP), in Vila Guarani, in the south of São Paulo. The men’s and female teams totaled two victories each on Tuesday, by the group stage. Their premiere was with a thrashing over Peru: the male applied 11 to 1 and female 7-0. In the late afternoon, the Brazilian teams returned to the court for two more matches. In the South American classic, Brazil defeated Argentina 12-5, while the women’s team overcame the United States 8-2.

Current world champion and paralympic bronze at Paris Games, the men’s team faces Panama on Wednesday (30), from 13:40 (Brasília time), for the third round of Group C (Chile and Puerto Rico complete the key). The competition is open to the public and also has LIVE TRANSMISSION ONLINE (on streaming) on the YouTube channel of the Brazilian Confederation of Disabled Sports (CBDV).

“This is the beginning of the cycle [paralimpico]. We know it’s a slightly harder competition for being the first of the year. And debuting winning is the best thing; It is knowing that we are on the right track ”, analyzed the player Paulo Saturnino of Class B1 (total blinds), who scored six of the 11 goals of victory against Peru.

The women’s team only competes again at 9am Thursday (31), against Chile, by Group B (Panama completes the key). Author of two of the seven goals from the victory of the hopscotch over Peru, Jessica Vitorino was satisfied from the court.

“Every debut has that cold in the belly, this is normal, but we kept our defense, which is very powerful. They were able to enter the court and do their best, and that’s when we managed to overcome our first challenge,” said the B3 class athlete (manages to define images).

The Americas Championship brings together 11 female and 12 men’s teams. The champions secure a place at the 2026 Goalball World Cup in Hangzhou (China). The Brazilian Men’s National Team already has a place guaranteed for winning the world title in the last edition (2022) in Portugal, when it became the only three-time champion in the world in Goalball. Below the hopscotch are Lithuania and Germany, both two -time champions.
