The case had its origin in the complaints of Senator Iván Cepeda, and focused on the efforts made by the lawyer Diego Cadena, in the name of Uribe, to ensure that the ex -paramilitary Juan Guillermo Monsalve would retract from his accusations about alleged links of the former president with paramilitary groups. The judge considered proven that there were offerings of legal and personal benefits in exchange for changing key testimonies in judicial processes.
The fundamental evidence that led to the guilt failure included recordings made with a spy clock, testimonies of inmates and evidence of coordination between chain and other actors to press witnesses. In the trial it was concluded that these actions were not the product of an autonomous action of the lawyer, as the defense sustained, but part of a strategy that had the purpose of directly benefit of Uribe.
The reading of the verdict, publicly transmitted from the courts of Paloquemao, generated reactions of all kinds on social networks and political sectors.
This ruling not only represents a legal milestone, but has direct repercussions on the national political landscape. Less than a year after the 2026 elections, Uribismo faces a deep blow, while related sectors and opponents measure the consequences of a historical conviction. The figure of Álvaro Uribe, who dominated Colombian politics for more than two decades, is marked by justice.
The hearing continues at this time in the courts of Paloquemao, in Bogotá.
