Republican bill seeks to change the name of the Kennedy Center for Donald J. Trump Center

A republican bill presented at the House of Representatives would withdraw the name of former President Kennedy of the Cultural Institution of Washington, created in honor of the 35th Commander in Chief, and would make him the Trump center for the performing arts.

Presented by the representative Bob Onder (Republican by Missouri), the project seeks to “designate the John F. Kennedy center for the performing arts such as the Donald J. Trump center for the performing arts”.

In an earlier statement, Onder described Trump as “patron of the arts and key figure of pop culture.”

By baptizing the bill such as the Make Entertainment Great Again (Mega) Law, a word game with the motto of the 2016 Trump campaign, “Make America Great Again”, Onder declared: “I cannot imagine a more omnipresent symbol of American exceptionalism in the arts, entertainment and popular culture in general that President Trump”.

The Republicans of the Chamber, members of the Assignments Committee, approved at the beginning of this month an amendment to the bill of annual expenses of the agencies of the interior, environment and related that would change the name of a space within the Kennedy Center – the famous opera of the prominent artistic center of Washington – to “Crup Lady Melania Trump Opera House”.

Republicans propose to change the name of the opera of the Kennedy center in honor of Melania Trump

The representative Mike Simpson (Republican by Idaho) described the possible designation of opera theater as an “excellent way to recognize the support and commitment of [Melania Trump] with the promotion of the arts ”.

The amendment for the opera theater was received with rejection by several emitters, including Jack Schlossberg, 32 -year -old grandson from Kennedy. “A nation is revealed not only by the men he produces, but also by the men he honors, the men who remember,” he wrote in a publication on social networks.

“The Trump administration defends freedom of oppression, not of expression,” said Schlossberg.

In an unprecedented action, Trump reorganized the Board of Directors of the Kennedy Center and proclaimed himself president in February, accusing him of being too progressive.

The Kennedy center opened its doors to the public in 1971. On its website, it describes its homonym, Kennedy, as a “supporter and defender of the arts of a lifetime” that “often directed public discourse towards what he called ‘our contribution to the human spirit’.”

Two months after Kennedy’s murder, in 1963, Congress approved and President Johnson promulgated a law that renamed the National Cultural Center as a “living monument to Kennedy.”
