Since January 2025, more than 600 Cubans have been returned to the island from the US
Miami, United States. – The seventh deportation flight from the United States to Cuba so far from 2025 is scheduled for July 31, as confirmed to confirmed Martí News Sources from the National Security Department (DHS).
Since Donald Trump assumed his second term, last January, more than 600 Cuban citizens have been repatriated by the Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE) on monthly flights. According to the source cited by Martí Newsthe Cuban regime would have shown a willingness to receive a second monthly flight, although negotiations in this regard did not come to specify.
A DHS spokesman said that these actions are part of President Trump’s effort to “restore border control and apply the law.” According to the same source, “deportations have already exceeded 185,000 – and this is just the beginning.”
The official highlighted the active role that federal agencies have resumed under the new administration: “President Trump and Secretary Noem have reactivated an agency that was already vilified, which was prevented from doing their job during the last four years.”
The DHS statement also criticizes the judicial decisions that deportations would have hindered: “Despite a historical number of judicial orders issued by activist judges, ICE, CBP and the US Coast Guard have made historical advances to fulfill the promise of President Trump to arrest and deport foreigners who have invaded our country.”
During his electoral campaign, Trump promised to carry out “the greatest deportation in history.” From his return to power, his administration has reversed migratory policies adopted by his predecessor, such as the program of parole Humanitarian and the CBP One application, mechanisms that facilitated the legal income of more than 1.5 million people to US territory. Those who entered through these procedures were also revoked work permits and were called to leave the country.
In parallel, the government ended the policy of Catch and release (capture and release) on the southern border, a practice that for years allowed the entry of thousands of migrants while their asylum requests were processed. According to DHS, this change is already generating tangible effects.
“Thousands are using the CBP Home APP application to self -transport. There are even migrants who are going back before reaching our borders. Migration through the Darién cap has decreased by 99.99%,” according to the statement obtained by Martí News.
The department did not indicate how many Cubans, Venezuelans and Nicaraguans have used the aforementioned application to voluntarily return to their countries of origin.
Deportations to Cuba were suspended during much of the pandemic period and resumed in 2023, after the renewal of bilateral agreements between the two nations.
