Professor defends cinema in schools to expand and form public

As urgent as streaming regulationdefended by audiovisual professionals, it is also necessary to expand access and form public for national cinema. This is what Marcelo Ikeda, Film and Audiovisual Professor at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), filmmaker, curator and film critic.Professor defends cinema in schools to expand and form public

During the Cinema, Policies and Market Seminar-the distribution of the independent film in Brazil, held during the Bonito South American Film Festival in Mato Grosso do Sul, Ikeda released what he called “provocation” to the Cinesur audience, inviting him to think about this issue.

According to him, there is already legislation on this. Created in 2014, the Law 13.006 It requires the screening of national films in basic education schools across the country, but has never been regulated.

“I made this provocation because today the great agenda of the audiovisual sector is the regulation of streaming, which is a fundamental and urgent agenda. It is strategic that the streaming platforms have, finally, some regulation of the government. But the provocation I did and that I think is as important as the regulation of streaming is to regulate the obligatory exhibition of Brazilian cinema in schools. public, ”he told the Brazil agency.

For Ikeda, it is necessary for children and adolescents to have access to Brazilian cinema “in a broader way”. And this must be started in schools.

“The school is a seed. It’s where the young and the teenager are graduating, it is also a place of citizenship and access. The school is a fundamental place for such a broader formation of the individual,” he said.

Regulating this law, Ikeda explained, would help create a structure within schools so that films can be shown. “Regulation is missing so that this law is actually applied, so that it has a structure in schools, both an equipment structure so that these films can be displayed, as well as a pedagogical structure,” he said.

He understands it is important that schools are also prepared to give students structural conditions for learning. “It is not enough to have to display Brazilian films in schools, but schools need to have this structure. It has to have a projector, have to have access to movies and have to have a license so that these films are shown so as not to circumvent the copyright,” he added.

In addition, Ikeda pointed out that the regulation would prepare teachers to help in the formation of this new audience.

“It has to have a pedagogical training so that teachers or cineclubists can indeed not only show, but discuss these films because the public formation is not limited to the screening of the films, but also to the debate and talk about it.”

Investment

According to him, this project would not require much public investment. “This is a basic policy. It is no use doing audience formation just building cinemas in malls. This is also important, it is the big market, but I think to get to people, you have to have this basic formation. And to do base training, you don’t need so much money, but you need this job of going to the places, at school. ”

“From this school relationship with the community, because it’s just no use for a projector and movie session. You have to have a local multiplier, a local agent who will bring these people who have these local connections and can actually make connections. You have to have a programming that connects with the demand of those audiences,” added the teacher.
