This July 28the country needs to hear more than promises: it requires concrete leadership signals, we hope that the presidential message does not overlook the critical situation of transport and mobility in Peru.
In addition to urgently face the serious problem of citizen insecurity, it must be recognized that chaos in urban transport is also a threat to health, productivity and competitiveness of the country. Our cities have become areas of extreme congestion, with high levels of pollution and an alarming road accident rate.
The land transport sector requires priority attention. It is unacceptable that, despite generating more than 1636,579 formal jobs equivalent to 10 % of the occupied PEA and providing more than 15 % of the tax collection, formal transport and their related activities continue to be relegated. A technical, stable and planned management is essential. This reality wears the physical and mental health of citizens and seriously limits the economic development of the country.
Traffic management and transportation based on technical vision, long -term planning and institutional stability urgently. The constant changes in the ministries and entities of the sector only perpetuate improvisation. Leaders are needed that give continuity to reforms and execute projects that truly transform the mobility experience of Peruvians.
For the presidential message, we hope to hear a clear commitment to a safer, efficient, modern and sustainable mobility. Because talking about transport and mobility is not talking about vehicles: it is talking about the future of Peru. This should not be just one more advertisement: the country needs an ambitious, multisectoral and technically solid roadmap, which transcends government periods and allows to build, with a state vision, a decent, orderly transport system and at the service of citizens.
