McLaren’s Briton Lando Norris recorded the best time in Saturday’s qualifying training and will start at the Spa-Francorchamps GP in Belgium.
Another highlight in the qualification – which had Oscar Pistri, also from McLaren and Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, in Top 3 – was Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, from Sauber, who will start in 10th place.
This is the second time that the São Paulo pilot, rookie in the category, can start in the top 10, a position that gives points in the race. Almost a month ago, he started in the eighth position in the Austria GP, a place he sustained at the end of the race, yielding him his first – and so far unique – four points in Formula 1.
At the top of the classification, the pole position dispute was fierce. Norris made the time of 1min40s562, only 0s085 ahead of the Piostri teammate. In the pilot table, the Australian, however, appears in front of his colleague, with 241 points, against 232 of Norris.
Depending on the results on Sunday’s race, the championship leadership can change hands.
Already the good result of Gabriel Bortoleto had direct help from Briton Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari, seven times champion of the category. In the second part of the classification training, he was eliminated, making room for the Brazilian to enter the top 15. At the end, the time that yielded the 10th position Bortoleto was 1min42s387.
The GP of Belgium – 13th Parade of the F1 circuit – will have dropped this Sunday from 10am from Brasilia.
