The Family Farming Statistical Yearbook says that the average monthly income of agriculture workers grew 5.5% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. In absolute terms, the salary of those who work in agriculture went from R $ 2,022 to R $ 2,133.
The study is from the National Confederation of Rural Workers Farming and Family Farmers (Contag) and the Intersindical Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese). It covers employees in agriculture, livestock, forest production, fishing and aquaculture activities.
The average yield results from the wide variation of wages in the five major Brazilian regions. In the north, the increase was 21%; In the Northeast, 7.5%; in the Southeast, 1.7%; and in the south, 9.7%.
Unlike the others, the Midwest recorded income loss of 7.9%. Despite the poor result, the region maintains the highest average salary amount R $ 3,492 – well above the northeast values (R $ 1,081) and the North (R $ 1,997); and also higher than the Southeast (R $ 3,147) and to the south (R $ 3,147).
According to the president of Contag Vânia Marques Pinto, the purpose of the yearbook is to monitor the remuneration and direct the performance of the entity.
“Contag has been based on federative entities to review and qualify public policies for the people of the field, the forest and the waters,” he said in a statement to the press.
Female work
The yearbook also records that, for the third consecutive year, reduced female unemployment in the countryside. In 2024, the rate was 7.6% – the lowest since 2015.
Aside from the acceleration of economic activity, which opens vacancies for both sexes and allows salary gains, Contag and Dieese mark a non -conjunctural factor for improving job offer among women in the countryside: the qualification of the female workforce.
“According to the survey, the level of instruction of women over 15 years old who live in rural areas advanced significantly between 2012 and 2024. The percentage of those with higher education tripled from 2% to 6%. The slice of those who completed high school also rose significantly, from 14% to 25% in the period. 14% to 10%, while the part with incomplete elementary school fell from 50% to 38%, ”says Contag’s note.
