Venezuela greets 72 years of the assault on the Moncada barracks

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, greeted the 72th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada barracks, a revolutionary deed headed by Commander Fidel Castro Ruz, to take the first step towards the overthrow of the bloody dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, supported by the United States in the 50s of the last century.

Through a statement, the Bolivarian government stressed that the assault on the Moncada barracks and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, “marked an irreversible milestone in the history of the struggle for social justice and the liberation of the peoples.”

The text maintains that this action was “the awakening of a revolution that became a symbol of dignity, sovereignty and self -determination for all of Latin America and the Caribbean.”

It ensures that this date constitutes the ignition of a flame “of a transformative process”, which more than 7 decades that occur, remains in force in time due to its historical importance of global reference.

The statement expresses the solidarity of Venezuela with all the heroes who participated in that process of Cuban rebellion, something that also reflected in their social networks the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros.

“We exalt the Cuban rebellion, which today continues to inspire and strengthen our ties. It had never seen a deep brotherhood and a love as growing as the one between Cuba and Venezuela,” he wrote.

The president sent “an affectionate, solidarity and brotherhood greeting, to the Army General, Raúl Castro Ruz, the fellow president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, to the brave militancy and the undefeated Cuban people.”

He ended by pointing out that “Moncada’s deed not only laid the foundations for the release of Cuba, but also inspired the unity and struggle of our America.”
