Six international organizations denounced before the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) the sharpening of the policy of systematic repression and persecution against human rights defenders in Venezuela.
In a public hearing before the IACHR, they warned of a series of patterns that “show a deliberate strategy of punishment and deterrence against those who exercise the right to defend human rights.”
They explained that among the mechanisms used by the Maduro Administration, arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances, torture and ill -treatment, passport cancellation, criminalization, digital surveillance, threats and stigmatization campaigns are included.
According to the information collected by the organizations, in the first half of 2024 there were more than 592 attacks against defenders, which were intensified after the elections and in 2025 the trend remained.
