EU classifies the terrorist entity to the "Los Soles Cartel"supposedly linked to Maduro

He United States Treasury He announced sanctions against a Venezuelan group that, he says, is led by President Nicolás Maduro, claiming that he supports the main drug cartels.

The Foreign asset control office (OFAC) of the Treasury announced restrictions against the so -called “Cartel de los Soles” and classified it as a particularly designated global terrorist entity.

The OFAC, which determines the sanctions based on the foreign policy of the United States, says that the group is “headed by Nicolás Maduro” and “other high -ranking Venezuelan individuals in the Maduro regime.”

He also claimed that the cartel “provides material support” to the Aragua train and al Sinaloa cartelcriminal bands that President Donald Trump’s government designated as terrorist groups.

“Today’s action further exposes the facilitation of Maduro’s illegitimate regime to drug trafficking through terrorist groups such as the Los Soles Cartel,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Besent, in a statement.

The administration of Trump’s first mandate accused Maduro and several of his main collaborators of “drug trafficking” and offered a reward for his capture, statements that the Venezuelan leftist leader rejected.

According to Trump’s government, the Sol Cartel aims to “use the avalanche of illegal narcotics as a weapon against the United States.”

Trump has put several groups in the south of the US border that, according to him, channel large amounts of dangerous illicit drugs to the United States and are involved in extortion, immigrants trafficking and other violent crimes.

Relationships between Washington and Caracas have been deteriorating for years. In 2019, the United States challenged Maduro re -electionwidely considered fraudulent by the international community.

Trump announced this year a partial veto to travelers from Venezuela, among a dozen countries.

Maduro announced Thursday that USA It allowed the Chevron oil giant to resume operations in the South American country after having previously imposed sanctions. Washington has not confirmed the news.
