Chinese prime minister, Li Qiang, called on Saturday to reconcile the development of the artificial intelligence (AI) and security risks, and requested an “urgent consensus” despite the intense technological career between Beijing and Washington.
The US president, Donald Trump, launched this week an aggressive low regulation strategy to boost US hegemony in this field.
When opening in Shanghai the World IAIC Conference (WAIC in English), Li emphasized the need for governance and development of open sources, announcing the establishment of an international cooperation agency in AI.
“The risks and challenges that artificial intelligence brings have caught a lot of attention (…) Finding a balance between development and security urgently requires more consensus of the whole society,” Li said.
At times that artificial intelligence is integrated into practically all industries, its use has caused great ethical questions, from the propagation of misinformation to its impact on employment or the potential loss of technological control.
In a video presented at the WAIC inaugural ceremony, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said that the IA governance would be “a definition of international cooperation.”
