A recent Nature Index Research Leaders 2025 report positions Chili Among the South American countries with greater scientific production, especially highlighting two Universities national for its impact on research published in high -level academic magazines.
Unlike other rankings, Nature Index does not measure the number of students or infrastructure, but focuses on quality scientific production, taking into account articles in 145 international prestige publications. The Universities that more contributed in this regard were recognized for their specific contribution in different disciplines.
Better positioned institutions
- Pontifical University Catholic of Chile (UC)
It leads the national ranking with a weighted participation of 14.88. It stands out especially in the Biology area, with research in cell biology, marine and crop science.
- University of Concepción (UdeC)
Second in the list with a score of 4.87. Its greatest strength is in Earth and Environmental Sciences, with studies in astronomy, geophysics and ecology.
In addition, other institutions also appear for their excellence in specific areas:
- University Technique Federico Santa María (USM) – Physics
- University Andrés Bello (UNAB) – Chemistry
- University of the Andes – Health Sciences
- University of ChiliUniversity of Tarapacá, University of Bío-Bío and University of Santiago also obtained outstanding mentions.
Chili This maintains its second place in South America in terms of scientific production, surpassed only by Brazil, and reaffirms the key role that the Universities in the generation of knowledge with global impact.
