A Earthquake of magnitude 3.8 It was recorded today in Thursday in the Ancash region, generating concern among the inhabitants of the Peruvian north. The event was reported by the National Seismological Center of the Peru Geophysical Institute (PGI) At 03:49 hours.
The epicenter was located 9 kilometers north of the city of Casma, in the province of the same name, at a depth of 19 kilometers. The exact coordinates of the earthquake were -9.39 latitude and -78.32 long.
The tremor was perceived with an intensity between II and III on the modified Mercalli scale, which means that It felt slightly to moderate in various areas of Casma. Despite the initial alarm, the civil defense authorities reported that there have been no material damage or human losses.
This new seismic event adds to constant activity in the country, since Peru is part of the Pacific Fire belt, one of the regions with the greatest seismic activity on the planet.
Given this geological reality, the Geophysical Institute of Peru reiterated to the citizens the need to remain informed through official sources, have an emergency backpack and have updated its family evacuation plan, especially in areas of high vulnerability.
