Nicolás Maduro confirmed Thursday that the American oil company Chevron He received a license to continue his operations in the country, after a period of restrictions imposed by the United States. The president described the measure as positive and assured that the company was already officially notified.
“Indeed, the Chevron company was informed of the granting of licenses to follow its operations in Venezuela,” Maduro said during an interview broadcast on the Telesur channel.
As indicated, the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, personally ratified the authorization to the company, which maintains joint contracts with the Venezuelan State.
Maduro celebrated the formal return From the oil company to the country, noting that during the period of sanctions, the wells operated in alliance with Chevron increased their production thanks to the national effort. “While Chevron was in that limbo in the United States, the wells that runs with Venezuela increased its production,” he said.
In this context, he stressed that the country has managed to advance in energy matters without depending exclusively on foreign licenses. “We have learned our own way … Venezuela has grown 12 % in oil production with their own efforts,” he said.
However, Maduro considered the formal reactivation of Chevron. He pointed out that work tables have already been established for its full reinstatement to the sector. “Chevron is 102 years old in Venezuela, and I want him to be 100 more years old, and work without problem,” he said.
He also took the opportunity to call other companies in the United States interested in investing. “Every American investor who wants to work with serious people, in word, on the basis of legality, comes to Venezuela. Venezuela is the paradise of investments in oil, gas, petrochemical, hydrocarbons, etc.,” he added.
Is Chevron permission among the prisoner exchange agreement?
Chevron’s return occurs after a recent approach between Caracas and Washington, which included the exchange of jailed citizens.
Asked whether this license is part of what was agreed last week by the exchange of prisoners, Maduro did not offer a direct response, although he said that diplomatic and commercial relations must advance “with mutual respect and without blackmail.”
Chevron stopped producing raw in May fulfilling a decision of the White House not to renew the permission that allowed him to operate despite the embargo in force since 2019.
