About 134 million workers will receive R $ 12,929 from the profit from the FGTS Guarantee Fund (FGTS) in 2024. The amount equals 95% of the profit of R $ 13.61 billion registered last year.
The FGTS curator board approved on Thursday (24), in Brasilia, the fund’s balance last year. Traditionally voted in August, the distribution of profits was also defined at the July meeting. After a record profit of $ 23.4 billion in 2023, FGTS profited nearly $ 10 billion less by 2024.
With profit sharing, FGTS will be profitable of 6.05% in 2024, above official inflation of 4.83% last year.
Last year, the FGTS distributed 65% of profits to quota holders. The percentage was 99% in 2023 and 2022. By 2021, 96% of the positive result were shared.

The drop in profit in 2024 occurred because, by 2023, the FGTS made an extra profit of R $ 6.6 billion from the fund restructuring that finances the reconstruction of Porto Maravilha in Rio de Janeiro. The rest of the fall took place from floods in Rio Grande do Sul, which boosted withdrawals at FGTS last year.
Last year, both revenue and withdrawals at FGTS broke record. In 2024, the fund raised R $ 192 billion, up 9% compared to R $ 175.4 billion in 2023. This stems from the fall in unemployment and the increase in formalization in the labor market.
At the same time, withdrawals totaled R $ 163.3 billion, up 15%. According to Caixa Econômica Federal, FGTS administrator, floods in Rio Grande do Sul raised the withdrawals.
Payment deadline
As a worker can have more than one FGTS account, R $ 12.969 billion will be divided between 235 million accounts. The money is distributed proportionally to the balance in each account on behalf of the worker on December 31 of the previous year.
Caixa Econômica Federal has until August 31 to credit the share of FGTS profits distributed among shareholders.
By law, FGTS yields 3% per year plus the Referential Rate (TR). However, the distribution of profits – existing since 2017 – improves fund performance. Credit – Traditional income plus the distribution of profit – is incorporated into the account balance.
In 2024, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) ruled that the fund must have minimum correction by the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA)but the correction is not retroactive about the stock of the accounts and is only valid from the publication of the result of the trial.
If the result of the distribution of profit per worker and the income of 3% per year more to TR is smaller than inflation, the curator board is required to define a form of compensation for the correction to reach the IPCA.

Can I withdraw?
The money, however, can only be withdrawn in accordance with withdrawal rules, such as dismissal without cause, purchase of their own home, serious illnesses or an annerseous withdrawal.
