Republicans of the Chamber of Representatives of the Assignment Committee approved an amendment to the annual bill of interior expenses, environment and related agencies that would change the name of the opera of the John F. Kennedy center for the performing arts to “Opera of the First Lady Melania Trump”.
A panel voted 33-25 on Tuesday to approve the amendment, which was part of a series of proposals.
The shutter occurred months after President Trump, to an unprecedented measure that generated some criticism, reorganized the Board of Directors of the Kennedy Center and proclaimed himself president after accusing the Institution of Performing Arts of being too progressive.

Both the president and Melania Trump – who broke the tradition during his first mandate and refused to participate in the annual honors of the Kennedy Center – attended the inaugural function of “Los Miserables” at the Artistic Center of Washington last month.
With more than 2 300 seats, the opera is the second largest theater in Kennedy Center and usually houses its main performances.
“Over the years, the opera has welcomed dozens of the most important dance and opera companies in the world and has housed some of the most important artistic events in the last quarter of a century,” according to Kennedy Center.
It is not yet clear when republican leaders plan to submit the legislation, together with the amendment, to the vote in the plenary of the Chamber.
