The president of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, said that the cases of Genaro García Luna and former President Felipe Calderón are not comparable to that of the former Secretary of Security of Tabasco Hernán Bermúdez and the current coordinator of Morena in the Upper House, Adán Augusto López Hernández. He also accused that there is a campaign of discredit against the latter, fueled by a double standard in the media when it comes to his party against the opposition.
“It is magnifying a criminal group. Who had heard of The barredora? Maybe at the local level, but at the national level it had no significance. Now it turns out that it is the great criminal group, I think even more dangerous than El Chapo”He ironized during a press conference.
Fernández Noroña came out in defense of López Hernández, who when he was Governor of Tabasco appointed Bermúdez as Secretary of Security. The latter is currently indicated by alleged links with The barredora and is a fugitive from justice.
The Morenista senator stressed that his coordinator is a Great political operator
and will continue with its legislative functions, unless blunt evidence appears against him, something that I do not see at this time
. He also denied that López Hernández will resign from office.
As part of his argument, Fernández Noroña highlighted key differences between cases. He recalled that García Luna – who was secretary of Public Security during the six -year period of Calderón – is arrested, has confessed and was sentenced by a court in the United States. Former President Calderón left the country because he knows that his situation is very vulnerable, while Adam Augusto is here
he said.
He also reproached that neither Calderón nor Enrique Peña Nieto acted to stop García Luna at the time. These are brutally different issues. The process against García Luna has already concluded. Much is missing for something similar to happen with this other official, and for there are elements that imply a legal responsibility, not only political, of Adam Augustus
held.
Fernández Noroña acknowledged that officials do have a political responsibility regarding their team’s actions. However, he considered that in the case of his co -religionist, this responsibility would only be activated if a final sentence against Bermúdez was reached.
