The Prosecutor’s Office has requested the preventive suspension for 18 months of the General Commander of the National Police of Peru, Victor Zanabria.
The petition is part of an investigation for alleged crimes of painful peculation, aggravated collusion, abuse of incompatible authority and negotiation, related to works carried out in the IX Police Macroregion of Arequipa between 2019 and 2020.
According to the fiscal file revealed by Panorama, police labor would have been used outside working hours to remodel spaces such as the Chapel and the Patio de Armas of the Police Complex, without documentary support or financial compensation.
In addition, protected witnesses claim that they were forced to carry out masonry, electricity and gasfiteria work while officially appearing as patrolling.
Claver Colquehuanca, work teacher responsible for the remodeling of the temple, said he had initially received S/4,700 for his services. However, in subsequent transactions more than S/17,000 were transferred.
According to his testimony, he was instructed by Victor Zanabria to collect the entire amount and return the difference in cash. In this investigation is also the Retiro Colonel Francis Alarcón Gallegos, current prefect of Arequipa.
The application is covered in article 297 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows officials to be suspended when crimes sanctioned with disqualification or to avoid criminal repetition are investigated.
