Javier Negre: "Socialism wants to control Latin America, but we are not going to shut up"

-What is the importance of the independence of the media in their constant relationship with power?

The media have to be independent because you have to control power. What we are seeing in Spain and Latin America is that the advertising pattern is used to buy wills and journalists. We believe that in Latin America people are more sensitized with fear of communism, with cultural battle, because it has Cuba, it has Venezuela.

-How do you see from Spain the progress of socialism in Latin America?
What we see in Latin America is worrying. The socialism of the 21st century has contaminated governments, media and social structures in countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, and now tries to do the same in Colombia, Bolivia or even in Spain. It is a global project that seeks absolute control of thought, and that uses lies as a weapon. Unfortunately, many do not see the signs until it is too late.

-Do you think that the traditional media in the region have been complicit in that advance?
Completely. The majority of the big media have been bought or co -opted, either with public money, institutional guideline or political pressure. They have abandoned their critical role and have become spokesmen of power. In Spain the same thing happens. Many media repeat official discourse. And in Latin America, many journalists who should inform have become ideological activists.

-What is the message you carry in your visits to Latin American countries?
I carry an alert and hope message. Of alert, because many countries are repeating the same script that led Venezuela to the disaster. And of hope, because there are brave citizens who are waking up. In Bolivia, for example, people no longer believe the story of the MAS; In Argentina there is a liberal rebirth; In Colombia there is a growing resistance. The key is to break the monopoly of the official narrative.

-Do you think that censorship and ideological persecution are already a constant throughout Latin America?
Of course. If you question power, they call you fascist, denialist, ultra -rightist … It is the same libretto. I lived it in my own flesh: in Spain they persecute me judicially, they veto me, they take me accounts, but they do not bend me. In Cuba they put you in prison, in Venezuela they exile, in Bolivia they harass you with prosecutors related to the regime. And the worst thing is that many citizens still do not understand that this is dictatorship, even if it has democratic clothing.

-What is the role of the new generation of journalists before this?
They have enormous responsibility. Young journalists cannot settle for repeating the editorial line of corrupt media. They have to be uncomfortable, brave and committed to the truth. In EDATV we are forming a new generation of communicators without fear. And we want to replicate that also in Latin America, where there is talent, but there is no independence.
