A group of Venezuelan migrants denounced having been victims of arbitrary detention, physical and psychological abuse, and inhuman prison conditions at the Center for Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT), under the administration of Nayib Bukele in El Salvador.
The testimonies presented on the channel Only2 They make visible the worrying situation of violation of human rights that these 252 nationals faced.
Testimonies that highlight a pattern of human rights violations
The Venezuelans, identified as Moses Perfect, Arturo Suárez, Andry Fernández, Pedro Escobar and Alejandro Colina, detailed the Calvary they suffered, which included the denial of access to water and submission to psychological torture. His testimonies highlight a pattern of human rights violations and inhuman treatment that, as they denounce, is systematic in these prisons.
“The only weapon they had at that time was, Guindar sheets and threaten that they were going to hang them if they were still hitting,” said Arturo Suárez, while asserting how one of his companions in jail “sexually abused him.”
“(…) When I was entering the Cecot and I saw that, they told us that it was a prison of terrorists and that we were never going to leave and we were going to die there,” added Moses perfect.
This public complaint, based on direct stories, reaffirms the urgent need to review prison practices in El Salvador, particularly when they involve foreign citizens without criminal history.
The opposition did nothing for us
“The opposition did nothing for us, I have understood that she (María Corina Machado) is very friendly Bukele, but why she didn’t call him and said ‘Look did not mistreat them,” said Suarez.
The case represents not only a penitentiary problem, but a humanitarian emergency with possible diplomatic repercussions.
The criminalization without evidence of foreign citizens represents a threat to the legal order and human dignity.
What has lived by these Venezuelan migrants goes beyond a punctual complaint: it is a humanitarian emergency that demands international attention.
