For the Dominican Republic to have an optimal and equitable social security system, it is necessary to address with determination important challenges, explained yesterday Labor Minister Eddy Olivares, by proposing a comprehensive reform of Law 87-01, with which decent pensions, reduction of labor informality and greater health coverage.
“The integral update of the Law 87-01 It is a pending mandate. We believe that the time has come to promote this process with determination, seriousness and, above all, with the active participation of all of you, ”he said, participating in a breakfast with the National Union of Entrepreneurs (UNE).

He assured that the government is committed to addressing these challenges through reforms that improve efficiency, expand coverage and strengthen system sustainability.
It is fundamental, he said, that he works hand in hand to reduce informality and guarantee the protection of everyone’s labor rights.
He said that promoting investment and education in financial planning for pensions is key to the future of the country and each Dominican.
“Let’s think about the long term, about the tranquility of its employees when they reach old age,” he added.
He said the High labor informality It affects 54 % of employment in the country, remains a crucial barrier, leaving many unprotected workers.
“These numbers hurt us, because behind each percentage, there is a Dominican without the protection it deserves. It is essential to expand coverage to this sector, to guarantee universal protection,” he said.
