Forest fires: Government counts 17 active fires in Santa Cruz

The Minister of Environment and Water, Álvaro Ruiz, said Tuesday that At the moment there are 17 active fires in the department of Santa Cruz.

At a press conference, he explained that “five fires are in San Ignacio de Velasco, another five in San Miguel, three in Concepción, two in Roboré, one in San José and another in Pailón.”

However, “There are 84 municipalities where the fires pass, of which 47 are high risk Because they have had large extensions of fire, ”he said.

The government now coordinates with the Armed Forces to control fires. The minister said that the uniformed “are already moving to the places (affected) to make monitoring and control commands.”

On Monday afternoon, the Cruceña governorate ruled out the presence of active fires in the region. In the Press Conference Paulo Viruez, responsible for the Directorate of Natural Resources (DIRENA), launched an alert to the 3,324 heat spotlights that exist in different municipalities, a fact that reflects the growing threat on the forest stalesses in full dry season.
