For the third time in less than a month, Cuba has a new record of electrical affectation.
This Monday the negative brand reached up to 2054 MW shortly before 11:00 at night, to leave behind the 2020 MW of the last July 15. That figure, in turn, had exceeded the 1936 MW of the June 28.
The new record exceeded almost 200 MW the Official forecast (1892 MW), driven by the lack of fuel in the patanas of Havana and the exit of Unit 5 of the Nuevitas Thermoelectric plant, according to Electric union (UNE).
The increasingly frequent deficit peaks and the record already of several effects above the 2000 MW – something unpublished until this month – confirm the exacerbation of an energy crisis that translates into blackouts of more than 20 hours a day throughout the island.
The scenario is such that at 7:00 in the morning the affectation was 1595 MW, a high figure that not long ago was only recorded at night. At noon the estimate is 1450 MW, despite what the 22 new solar parks can contribute.
The output of Unit 5 of Nuevitas raised to seven the thermal blocks outside the National Electrical System (SEN) due to breakdowns and maintenance, including Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, responsible for providing more than 200 MW and currently stopped by a break.
For that same reason, unit 4 of Energy Varadero is also detained, while 87 distributed generation plants and several melon and rule engines had no fuel to produce electricity.
For the night, the UNE barely foresees the incorporation of three engines of the melons, which must contribute 48 MW. With this, the availability will be just 1788 MW, while the maximum affectation will touch the 2000 MW (1962).
In this way, in that time more than half of Cuba will be dull simultaneously and, if an unforeseen event occurs in the generation or an increase in demand, the negative record imposed this Monday could fall only 24 hours later.
