Brazil Chancellor Mauro Vieira must respond for diplomatic asylum granted to Nadine Heredia before the Foreign Relations Commission of that country. The date of its presentation has not been specified but it is estimated that it would be the first days of May.
This was agreed by the aforementioned working group attending to a request by Senator Sergio Moro, who said that Vieira will also have to clarify the reasons why a plane from the Brazilian Air Force was sent to Lima to pick up the former president’s wife Ollanta Humala and take her to Brasilia.
Moro has described the aforementioned flight – which also transferred the couple’s youngest son – as “the flight of shame.”
In Brazil, opponents to the Government of Lula da Silva have severely questioned the diplomatic asylum granted to Heredia, mainly the use of public resources for its collection in Lima towards Brazil that would have implied an expense exceeding 55,000 dollars.
Moro pointed out that the Call for the Foreign Minister seeks to “guarantee the transparency, legality and responsibility for the conduct of Brazilian external policy.”
Heredia and her husband, remembered, were sentenced last week to 15 years in prison for the crime of money laundering and the payment of a civil reparation of 10 million soles by the third collegiate court of the National Superior Court.
Who is Sergio Moro?
Sergio Moro is currently a Brazilian senator. He is 52 years old and was one of the main judges of the so -called Lava Jato operation, an investigation that uncovered a network of corruption and bribes in that country and involved the high authorities of that country, including former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
He left the judiciary to assume the position of Minister of Justice and Public Security during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro from 2019 to 2020 and is currently a senator of the Republic.
