Daniel Díaz says he was the victim of unworthy treatment and physical aggressions during a medical visit while vacationing with his family.

News Colombia.

A case of alleged physical aggression and medical negligence in a hospital in Cartagena has generated outrage in social networks. The complaint was made by Daniel Díaz, a Caleño dentist who works in a renowned Health Center in Cali, who said that, while enjoying a family vacation in the capital of Bolívar, he lived an experience that he described as a “nightmare”.

According to his testimony, Díaz suffered an episode of dyskinesias – involuntary models associated with Parkinson’s disease that he suffers – after going to dinner at the Historic Center of Cartagena to celebrate his birthday. Given the concern of relatives and witnesses, he went to a health center in search of medical care.

“When I left the restaurant I presented an episode of dyskinesias. At the request of my family I went to the hospital because those who did not know me worried,” said the health professional.

However, instead of receiving adequate attention, he says he was a victim of accusations by medical staff, who, according to him, hinted that he was under the effects of psychoactive substances.

“I told them: they have to do a urine test for toxicology to see what happens, and they did not want, until they did to me, but they did not give me the results initially,” Andrés said, visibly affected.

The case worsened when he tried to leave the hospital by not feeling safe or properly attended. According to his complaint, a security guard prevented him from leaving, which caused a struggle that ended with his fall to the ground and police intervention.

“They didn’t want to miss. The guard came on me and threw me to the floor,” he said.

Finally, after insisting, he managed to access toxicological exams, which confirmed that there was no drug presence in his body. “There were no drugs, there were no drugs,” he stressed with indignation.

The dentist announced that it will file a formal demand against the health center for abuse of authority, medical negligence and personal injury. “The beating, the torture was inside the hospital with doctors, cameras, guards and police,” he denounced.

This case reopens the debate on the way in which people with neurological conditions in medical institutions of the country are treated, and on the disproportionate use of force by security personnel and authorities within hospitals.
