Tulum, the other airport of the 4T

Tulum, the other airport of the 4T

Without having completed the required technical studies, the General Directorate of Engineers of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) is in charge of the construction of the Tulum International Airport (AIT)in the Caribbean tourist heart of Mexico.

The work has to be inaugurated (rain, thunder or lightning) at the end of 2023.

Your first trade route within the country will undoubtedly be: Santa Lucia- Tulum, which will compete with the successful Mexico City-Cancun. In the international arena they will include: Dallas-Tulum, Chicago-Tulum, Houston-Tulum, Bogotá-Tulum or Panama-Tulum. For those dates and for that destination there will be no complication to attract airlines, the attractive Mayan Riviera takes care of it.

The new infrastructure, which includes a military air base, requires an investment of around 986 million pesos and is already guaranteed.

Until last September 22, the unit detailed that it had a 15% advance in the technical feasibility of the project: studies of airworthiness, meteorological conditions, geotechnics, obstacle removal and feasibility of services.

In a briefing note reviewed by It’s tourism! It also includes the master plan with a study of capacity and service levels, which allows “to verify that the infrastructure is designed according to current demand, as well as the market to be served and not over or under dimension and generate unnecessary costs.”

Until the national month, the archaeological studies had progress of 15%, the environmental feasibility 20%, the legal 25% and the social 15% percent.

Despite everything, for weeks, military engineers have begun to move with their personal and work teams from the International Airport Felipe Angeles (AIFA) to the AIT polygon to fulfill the new mission under the sun’s rays. In them there is the certainty that the required studies are carried out in depth and respond to technical times, not political ones.

In accordance with the new rhythms to build infrastructures, the President of Mexico said five weeks ago: I also take this opportunity to say that the land has already been acquired, 1,200 hectares for the construction of the new airport in Tulumwhich will be inaugurated in December 2023.

Another characteristic of the 4T, with respect to militarized public works where the path is made by walking, is the disciplined coordination between dependencies, which is suddenly not appreciated due to political stridency.

Participating in the development of the AIT (a brand for which there is no evidence of its commercial registration): Sedena, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat ), the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) and the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur)for example.

An example of the desired joint task is that Sedatu has a tender underway for the elaboration of the operational territorial program of the southern zone, of the Riviera Maya “associated” with the Tulum International Airport and its interconnection with the Mayan Train project in its Urban influence in the municipalities of Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the state of Quintana Roo.

Yes, there are multiple questions about the AIT and a lot of information reserved in the PDF of its 53-page efficiency analysis, which is captioned: Confidential.

Among the already known aspects are mentioned: A 3,500 m long runway, taxiways, platforms for commercial, general and cargo aviation, parking for helicopters, hangar area, signaling and navigation aid equipment, a terminal building and a metallic structure with areas such as: lobby, documentation room, last waiting room, baggage claim rooms, immigration, customs, commercial areas and parking areas.

For now, we are getting ready to witness the opening of AIFA on March 21 with VivaAerobusVolaris and Aeroméxico (which at the last minute joined the party in times of electoral closure).
