More than 600,000 million have been issued in energy rate subsidies

In January, the demand for energy increased 5.54%

In the first two months of the current year, the Ministry of Mines and Energy turned over $600,000 million for the payment of subsidies on the energy bill of families connected to the National Interconnected Electricity System.

(Read: Market expects inflation in February to reach 7.64%).

These subsidies, which benefit the lowest-income families in the country, totaled $299,938 million in a first turn of which nearly $113,000 million were allocated to users located in the Caribbean region of the country.

The second tour, carried out on February 28, reached $341,830 million of which about $124,000 million were allocated to users located in the Caribbean region of the country.

In the first two months of this year alone, we have transferred more than $641,000 million, which corresponds to 42% of the total amount of subsidies that was transferred in 2021, which was $1.4 trillion. These subsidies allow greater equity in Colombia by guaranteeing access to electricity for households with fewer resources and thus improve their quality of life.“, said the Minister of Mines and Energy, Diego Mesa.

(What’s more: Wind farms prepare their lines for connection).

subsidies benefit nearly 12.4 million Colombian households of strata 1 and 2, who due to their income level are considered vulnerable and therefore the subsidies allow them a break in their pockets while guaranteeing them access to the basic electricity service.
