Around 120 families of small producers and fishermen market their products with hotels and restaurants, such as the chain Wendy´s, Homewood Suites by Hilton And participating in the School Food Program (PAE) through the National Student Welfare Institute (INABIE), thanks to the Connecta Campo Project, which promotes the integration of the family agricultural sector with tourism and local consumption.
These families grow vegetables such as lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, spinach, among others. Fruit trees: strawberries, milky, watermelon and melon and fish: tilapia and gold and are in communities such as Villa Poppy (Constanza), Higüey (Ginajaragua, Jaguamocha and María Ruíz) and in the provinces of Pedernales and Barahona.
The head of the Collaboration Unit on Family Agriculture Networks of Parliamentarians of the FAO, Guilherme de Moraes, explained that before field it connects the average monthly income of these producing families they ranged between 15,000 and 16,000 Dominican pesos. With access to more stable and profitable markets, these income have exceeded among 25,000 and 35,000 pesos per month By family, significantly improving their living conditions and economic sustainability.

He stressed that family farmers, peasants and small farmers, regardless of what they are called have a great contribution to food systems, since they produce about 90% of food, and have a great role in ensuring food security and nutrition of populations. He said that participating families receive the adaptation of their family farm, technical advice and construction of community warehouse. He indicated that this program has been a success because more than 15 institutions participate in it by joining efforts to promote access to markets and sustainable development.
