Faced with criticism for an alleged support for criminals, the prosecutor of the nation, Delia Espinozahe presented official figures on the arrest of criminals during his speech at the meeting between institutions to address the issue of citizen security. Based on the data of the National Registry of detainees and sentenced to imprisonment (Renadespple), Espinoza said that less than 1,150 of the 43,000 detainees in flagrance are linked to crimes related to the recent wave of criminality that plagues the country.

“The figures of detainees and those that are released can only be verified and consulted through the Reedsple. Until today, from January to March, from 43,747 arrested in flagrance, only 2.63% are involved in crimes of extortion, sicariato and kidnapping, ”he said.

Espinoza He claimed to agree that prosecutors who do not comply with their work and release criminals despite the existence of evidence against them must be expelled from Public Ministry. However, he requested prudence in the protests addressed to the body headed, since, he said, every critic should be based on the official data handled by the State.

“Of course we are the first to say that the prosecutors who do their job well are welcome, but those who do not be denounced. You cannot talk about these issues without real figures. We consider that official detainee figures are registered in the Reedsple(…) where several institutions work to keep a record of the detainees (…), ”he said.
