The Council of Ethics and Parliamentary Decorming of the Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday (9), by 13 votes to five, the opinion for the revocation of the mandate of Deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) for breach of parliamentary decorum.
Last week, the rapporteur of the process, deputy Paulo Magalhães (PSD-BA), recommended the punishment of the colleague.
Glauber Braga was accused by the New Party of expelled from the Chamberin April last year, with pushes and kicks, the member of the Free Brazil Movement (MBL) Gabriel Costenaro. The scene was filmed. Costenaro participated in a manifestation of support for application drivers during the proposal debate that regulates the profession (PL 12/24).
Glauber Braga stated that he reacted to the provocations of the MBL member, who has, according to him, a history of provocations in sequence.
Fast
After approval, the deputy announced that he will strike hunger and will be in the House of Representatives until the end of the process.
“I know it’s the most radical tactic than a militant can take. I’m fasting today and I will remain without food as a form of denunciation and as a radical coping tactic to what is happening,” said the parliamentarian on social networks.
According to him, this is an irrevocable position. Glauber Braga said he will continue to drink only water during this period. Shortly after Braga’s decision, Deputy Luiza Erundina (PSOL-SP), 90, also decided to strike hunger.
Process
The Ethics Council can adopt four types of penalties in relation to the cases analyzed:
- written or verbal censorship,
- suspension of regimental prerogatives for six months,
- suspension of the parliamentary mandate for six months, and
- loss of mandate.
The last two feathers need to be ratified by the plenary.
The deputy may appeal the decision in the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the House. The process will also undergo analysis of the house plenary.
