Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi highlighted on Monday business opportunities and collaboration between Uruguay and Panama, after an encounter with his Panamanian counterpart, José Mulino. During the meeting, Orsi expressed her gratitude for recent visits from Panamanian authorities to Uruguay, considering them a clear message about the need to strengthen bilateral ties.

Orsi recalled that, when he assumed as an elected president, he agreed with the position of Mercosur, which considers Panama a close and strategic partner, to whom special attention should be paid. In this regard, he stressed that, although Uruguay is a small country within the block, its vocation is the integration and articulation with other countries to create certainty in a world full of surprises and uncertainties.

The president stressed that there are Uruguayan businessmen interested in Panama, which opens a space for an exchange of experiences in various areas, such as production, logistics and services. “It is not just about competing, but about complementing us,” said Orsi, while highlighting that Uruguay can learn a lot from Panama regarding its logistics development.

Finally, Orsi insisted on the importance of consolidating ties with Panama within the framework of Mercosur, so that the agreements reached do not lose strength due to lack of attention and mutual commitment.
