The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, said that “the people will always be present to defend the homeland,” said Thursday from Puente Llaguno, from where the commemoration of the victims of the fascism of April 11 was made.
The Llaguno bridge represents one of the icons of the fight for the defense of democracy, where many years ago numerous people were impacted by shots from different points of center of Caracas, many of which were executed by officials of the Metropolitan Police, according to the opinion of the court that investigated the facts.
Meléndez sentenced that in the face of similar circumstances, “here we will always be, defending, watching, protecting the Miraflores Palace, which is the Palace of the People, the House of the People and here will always be our town on the street, accompanying us all, with each other to be defending our homeland.”
The mayor, when addressing the surviving victims of the events and her relatives, said that: «This April 11 is a special day. We here, always without call, we always reach this fighting space, which is ours, that we defend it ».
The mayor of Caracas and Chief of Regional and Municipal Affairs of the PSUV recalled, that the version disseminated initially by the media of the extreme right, was that the authors of the crimes were those who called “gunmen of Puente Llaguno”, but, after the investigations, it was clear that “what was happening was that they were defending themselves from a metropolitan police who had been killing people, there are people Premeditated, what they were going to do was already built, ”he said.
He recalled that the town on the street came out in defense. «We live in those times the media, what the media said. They didn’t say the reality of what was happening, ”he emphasized.
He sent greetings to the victims of April 11 present at the scene and acknowledged that they have never passed out in the fight for the defense of the homeland. «They are still in front, every year they come to Puente Llaguno and we all accompany ourselves during those days 11, 12 and 13. We continue on the street, we must be alert, we must be an Avizor eye, always pending ».
He said that the revolutionaries “are clear” and will continue to work together to continue defending the homeland.
«For us it was a triumph those days of the people and the civic – military union, as one. We rescued the commander Chávez and it was 47 hours when many masks fell, but the traitors will not return and will not pass, we will discover them on time and here we will be on the street, ”he exclaimed.
