“From January to date, we have around 150 patients with suspected disease and a total of 34 patients confirmed with pulmonary tuberculosis,” said the head of the Tuberculosis Program of the Departmental Health Service (headquarters) of Pando, Juan Pablo Choque, to a local media.
It is expected that until the end of the year 130 patients with the disease will be reached, as happened on average in past years.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the tuberculous bacillus, a bacterium that usually affects the lungs. It is transmitted through the air when a sick person coughs, sneezes or spits. It can be prevented and cured.
The sick people are in the municipalities of Cobija, Porvenir, El Sena and Santa Rosa del Abuná.
In case of presenting symptoms, such as low weight and coughing with phlegm, they must go to a health center to do the corresponding test and receive a diagnosis for timely treatment.
