Havana, Cuba. – Cuban activist Yoanielaysi Rodríguez Montero, president of the Community Council in The Tunas of the Naturpaz organization, he denounced in an interview with Cubanet That on Thursday night he was attacked by two strangers who gave him a stony in the head, for which he required hospitalization.
“Everything happened around 8:00 at night, when I went to my house [en avenida Libertad, reparto Borbollón, municipio Colombia, Las Tunas]. Two guys fell to Pedradas and left me without knowledge, ”said Rodríguez Montero.
According to his testimony, residents of the town helped him and took him to the Hospital “Cándido González Horta”, where he was admitted to observation for several hours.
“They threw me plaque [radiografía] And I spent eight hours under observation until around 3:00 in the morning they told me to go. There was not a policeman or anyone, although the neighbors and I informed the doctors of what had happened, because it was an attack, ”said the activist.
He also stressed that the attackers did not stole any of his personal belongings so he ensures that the mobile of the attack was not to steal.
“I am convinced that it is a work of state security to prevent the work that Naturpaz is doing in the province of Las Tunas,” said Rodríguez Montero.
On April 5, Juan Alberto de la Nuez Ramírez, also a member of the environmental organization Naturpaz, He was a victim of “a brutal attack” in the province of Cienfuegos, which left him hospitalized for serious injuries.
“I saw my life in danger and I thought I was going to die. I was ambushed in a vandal act by more than four people armed with knife, sticks and machetes. The machete attacked me from behind and cut off my warm Cubanet.
As he says, after the attack he was helped by two young people who took him to the hospital even though they did not know him.
“My wife was running for the [estación de la] Police to warn that they were killing me. Everything happened in front of 80 or 100 people in the place. The police never asked me what happened, or what it called me, he was not interested in who were those who sent me to the hospital, ”he said.
Naturpaz is a non -profit non -government organization whose objective is the protection of the environment. Among the programs developed on the island is “Seeds for Cuba”, an initiative to generate food for Cubans on foot.
Through its community councils, the organization sends seeds to the peasants to try to improve and overcome the food crisis in which Cuba is plunged.
