Leonardo Lomelí, rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), hopes that Trump’s policies do not affect the extension centers in the United States and these are in a position to support fellow citizens, as they are located in sanctuaries.
He informed that as part of the collaboration agreement with the Mexican Foreign Ministry to offer legal and psychological advice to the nationals, more than 30 people have already been attended and the influx is anticipated. Similarly, the UNAM portal was made available to the Consulates.
At a press conference at the inauguration of the FIL Mining Palace, he explained that as part of the austerity program measures were carried out in the budget to release resources to support the three substantive functions of teaching, research and dissemination of culture. He added that 1,500 more places will be offered in Baccalaureate, while at the degree level it is still being evaluated. Where we can grow more is in the National Schools of Higher Studies, in Juriquilla, León, Mérida and Morelia. It is very likely that in the coming months a fifth school will be approved in the city of Oaxaca
.
When asked if the UNAM was consulted for the elaboration of Claudia Sheinbaum’s Mexico Plan, the rector replied that the specific document knew him after his presentation, but they have been invited to participate in several of the projects involved.
