President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva participated, this Friday (21), the signature ceremony of the concession contract of Terminal ITG02, in Itaguaí, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Bid up by Cedro Participações SA in auction last December, the terminal will receive R $ 3.6 billion in initial investments from the concessionaire for construction and operation.
According to the Ministry of Ports and Airports, it is the highest value ever obtained in auctions in the sector. For the federal government, the implementation of the terminal is a milestone for the port sector in the state of Rio and is expected to generate up to 5,000 direct and indirect jobs during works and operation.
Partnership
In a speech, Lula highlighted the importance of the partnership of the public and private sector for the development of the country and praised the entrepreneurial vision of the president of Cedro Participações, Lucas Kallas.
“Since he was taken in my room, […] I found at the time I was talking to the serious businessman, the entrepreneur with a very interesting national view, with the entrepreneur who first of all loves Brazil, believes in Brazil and hopes for the growth of Brazil, ”said the president.
“It’s not every entrepreneur who thinks like this. There are a businessman who goes to government, talks, asks for things and is still talking bad about the government. There is a businessman who receives billions of investments and, when he leaves the president’s room, the press asks: ‘So, how are you?’ [ele responde:] ‘Was it enough’? That is, people never thank what they received. And Lucas, by announcing this investment today here is a demonstration that he started as small, but willing to be great, ”added Lula.
With 250,000 square meters of area, the Cedro Participações Terminal will be able to move 20 million tons per year and is expected to boost local port production in one third. Operations should focus on the movement, storage and distribution of iron ore.
Naval industry
The government also announced today the use of resources from 2024 and 2025 of the Merchant Navy Fund, designed to provide financing for the development of the merchant navy and the shipbuilding industry.
Contracts of R $ 5.49 billion were signed, the highest value since 2012. These resources will be destined to 15 new contracts covering 565 works for interior navigation, maritime support, port support and cabotage, as well as Brazilian naval reparation.

According to the medical report, “all exams performed are within normal, including skull tomography for postoperative control.” At today’s event, Lula spoke about the results.
“Five and a half hours inside the hospital. I examined everything, examination of the head, heart, everything you can imagine. When I finished the exams, 11:30 am, doctors said: ‘Lulinha, you have 70, with health of 30 and with political will of 20’. […] So if anyone thought I was going to stop doing politics because of my head, I mean … get ready that Lulinha is better at 79 than when he was 50, ”said the president.
