The street blocks and parades of samba schools in Rio should bring together a total audience of 8 million people during Carnival week, from Friday (28) to Sunday (9). The number is based on Carnival 2024 and includes the estimate of revelers in the city’s blocks (6 million), in addition to the 2 million people who will pass through the carnival balls and the school parade places (Sambadrome and Intendente Magalhães Avenue).
In the sambadrome, for example, where the schools of the Special Group, the Gold (Second Division) and Chirins are parade, 120,000 people are expected per day over seven days. Already at Intendente Magalhães, in six days of parade of the silver and bronze series (third and fourth divisions) and the plot blocks, the estimated audience is more than double the sambadrome: 250 thousand.
In the balls around the city, it is expected to gather about half a million people. “These are truly impressive numbers, remembering that the city of Rio has 6.2 million people [habitantes]. We do an ‘Olympics’ a year. It is a major city operation, ”said the executive director of the Center for Operations and Resilience (Color) of Rio, Marcus Belchior.
Belchior stated that the city has been dealing with pre-carnival, which in recent weeks has involved hundreds of street blocks and technical rehearsals from samba schools in the sambadrome.
In the coming days, however, the operation intensifies, with the arrival of tourists and the Rio de Janeiro departure movement. At the same time, the city is going through a moment of intense heat, which despite reducing over the last days, remains strong.

Carnival monitoring will be 500 operators who will take turns at the Operations Center and will be supported by cameras and drones, especially in the areas of the Sambadrome and Intendant Magalhães. On the samba catwalk, for example, there will be 24 internal cameras and two drones.
Almost a thousand agents of the Municipal Guard and the Secretariat of Public Order will be responsible for the ordering of the areas of parades. Traffic blockages around the sambadrome start at 11am on Friday (28).
There will be bus reinforcement in the BRT Sambadrome region and operation 24 hours a day on the parade days.

The president of the tourism company of the city, Riotur, Bernardo Fellows, said that this Friday (21), begins the “warm carnival”, with the beginning of sound and light tests in the sambadrome.
He pointed out that this year there will be two news in the sambadrome. The first is that the school parades of the special group will be held on three nights (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday), instead of two.
Another novelty will be the samba wheels at the end of the parades, in Apoteose Square, where the samba schools dispersion occurs. “This will greatly help divide the audience on the way out.
