The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will allocate $ 9.3 million to finance agricultural restoration projects that increase food production in Cuba.
The project, which will be carried out as a name “Blue and green development in food and urban sectors of Cuba”, will be able to restore 7,000 hectares of agricultural land and 600 hectares of forests. It will last five years and offers financial incentives to the public and private sector.

The initiative will be concentrated in 10 municipalities, without specifying, in the west, “with a sustainability approach in fishing, forestry and agricultural practices.” It will benefit 18 694 people, of which more than half are women.
In the project, in addition to the FAO, the World Environment Fund (GEF) and the Center for Research in Protein Plants and Bionatural Products (CIPB) of the Caribbean country will participate.
