Insurance industry disbursed $ 25.5 billion in 2024 for the protection of goods and people

One of the sectors in which the highest disbursement rates were presented was home insurance.

The Colombian insurance industry reached a milestone in its disbursements in 2024, paying a total of $ 25.5 billion to their insured, that is, an increase of 13.6% compared to the previous year.

“The Colombian insurance sector, taking into account the value of the premiums in relation to the national GDP, equivalent to 3.2% of the economyalmost 3.3%, ”explained Gustavo Morales, president of Faselcolda.

One of the sectors in which the highest disbursement rates were presented was Home insurance, which due to natural events such as strong floods registered in Cali in May, He saw a significant increase in payments. Insurance companies allocated $ 14 billion to cover damage to homes, a clear reflection of the vulnerability of goods against natural disasters.

“In the life of Colombians we were able to respond for the losses of households, vehicles, assets. Any time, as we have always said, It is a good time to review how we are protected, how we are insured And to buy household, life, health, car insurance, ”Morales added.

He Soat also marked a high volume of payments, reaching $ 2.54 billion, destined for medical care of victims of traffic accidents.

Despite a slight decrease of 2.1% compared to the previous yearinsurers maintained their response capacity to more than 938,000 accident victims and 7,400 deaths registered until November.

In the sector of Occupational risks, a disbursement of $ 4.8 billion was reported for the care of accidents and occupational diseaseswith a growth of 18.8%.

This sector continues to be essential to protect workers, with 13 million members of the system, reflecting the importance of labor protection in a market that continues to be formalized.

Agricultural insurance also reached historical figures, disbursing more than $ 81 billion to cover more than 98,000 small producers in the field, who have been affected by climatic phenomena that impact their crops.

This 27% growth compared to 2023, highlights the relevance of this insurance to protect national agricultural production and contribute to the objective of public policy “zero hunger”.

As for life insurance, companies disbursed important sums to cover claims related to the health and life of Colombians. On average, one in two Colombians has insurance of this type.
