The waiting times of some brands became up to one year for some pieces because there was little production and the insurers had to implement new coverage and, in the most extreme case, Stop securing this type of units.
“There are a couple of insurers who decided not to cover these types of little known units that, in addition, have a relatively small participation in the international market and of which it is presumed that there are serious problems with pieces because they handle small volumes,” Alejandro Sobera Biótegui, president of the car committee in the Mexican Association of Insurance and Bonding Agents (AmaSFAC) commented in an interview.
The specialist said there are two companies that announced that they stopped assuring this type of cars because there have been cases in which the company takes to get the pieces up to one year.
Sovereign stressed that although these problems have been presented, it is not widespread. “You can’t generalize, you have to review the brand well, what presence has internationally,” he said.
The recommendation that gives those interested in one of these cars is that they verify the presence that the brand has internationally.
“If you are going to buy a brand that sells very few vehicles, surely the problem of parts will be that they are not manufactured,” he said.
Quálitas, the largest insurer in Mexico by number of insured cars, has said that they have no problems to ensure this type of vehicles, while HDI reported that to face this type of problem with any type of car brand has created additional coverage that customers can hire to deal with these problems.
Solutions range from a substitute for help for transportation expenses or the zero deductible in material damage due to partial and zero deductible loss in material damage due to total loss.
