The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) warned about rainfall of varied intensity on the north coast and the Sierra del País, which will be registered between February 19 and 21, with the presence of rain, snow, hail and aguanieve in Several locations.
According to the senamhi prognosis, important precipitation accumulations, with hail in areas greater than 2,800 meters above sea level and snow in areas located above 4,000 meters are expected in the mountains. In addition, these rainfall will be accompanied with thunderstorms and wind bursts that would reach 40 km/h.
The rains are expected to impact the following regions of the Sierra:
As for the north coast, the most intense rainfall will be registered in Piura, Lambayeque, Tumbes and La Libertad, with accumulations that would reach 50 mm daily. Regarding the Sierra Norte, the accumulated could reach up to 55 mm/day.
Therefore, Senamhi recommends that citizens adopt preventive measures to possible floods, landslides and huaicos in vulnerable areas.
Similarly, urges regional and local authorities to stay alert and activate emergency plans for the effects of these rainfall.
