The percentage of biodiesel mixed with diesel oil will be 14% to contain the increase in food price, decided on Tuesday (18) the National Council of Energy Policy (CNPE). The percentage would rose to 15% on March 1.

Although most biodiesel in the country originates from soy, a product mostly exported and poorly consumed by Brazilians, the decision helps to hold the price of food. This is because the elevation of the mixture to 15% would make fuel more expensive, used in cargo transportation, with impact on the price of food. Currently, diesel oil represents 35% of the freight value.
“The price of food is the great priority of our government. Considering the need to seek all the mechanisms so that the price is cheaper in the supermarket gondola, we keep the mixture in B14 [teor de 14% de biodiesel] Until we have results in the population’s food price, as much of the production of biodiesel comes from soy, ”said, in a statement, Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.
Despite being less polluting and renewable, biodiesel is more expensive than diesel, fossil fuel. The higher the diesel biodiesel content, the higher the price on the pump.
If the percentage of mixture was under, diesel would have the second increase in one month. In late January, Petrobras raised the price of fuel For distributors at R $ 0.22 to decrease the lag compared to the international price.
Biodiesel, which is added to fossil diesel, has been on the rise in recent weeks.
Sanctioned in October 2024, the fuel law of the future establishes that the portion of biodiesel varies from 13% to 25%. However, the addition has been mandatory since 2008 as a national policy to reduce the level of cargo transportation pollution.
