An unfortunate traffic accident occurred last Monday, February 17 in the municipality of La Plata, Huila, where a baby of only five months lost his life while traveling on a motorcycle with his parents.

According to local media, the fact was recorded in the Belén Center. According to the preliminary reports, the child’s mother moved on a motorcycle next to her partner while taking the baby wrapped in a blanket. However, during the journey, the blanket would have been entangled in the motorcycle chain, which caused the little girl to be trapped in the rear tire.
“Unfortunately, the mother took her baby in her arms and the blanket reached off, getting tangled up in the posterior axis of the motorcycle, which caused her to be sucked towards the tire,” said Mauricio Lizarazo, head of the Transit Section of the Huila Police.
Despite the rapid reaction of the parents and the efforts to rescue her, the baby suffered seriously injuries and, unfortunately, failed to survive.
The tragic accident has generated shock among the community of La Plata, where the inhabitants and relatives of the child deeply regret what happened.
This case reopens the debate on safe mobility in motorcycles and the use of adequate systems for the transport of children, avoiding improvisations that may derive in fatal outcomes.
The authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident and have urged drivers to comply with traffic regulations to avoid future tragedies.
