Luis Alberto Heber, recently assumed as a senator, advanced some of the measures that will be promoted in the new legislature, including a bill to automatically deport foreigners who commit crimes in Uruguay. In an interview in Telenoche, Heber explained that the proposal seeks to face the increase in violence and drug trafficking, noting that those foreigners who integrate into criminal organizations and are convicted must be expelled from the country.
In addition, in his first interview as a senator, Heber reflected on his four decades of parliamentary career, mentioning some of the crises he had to cross and highlighting the importance of Luis Alberto Lacalle’s government. As for the projects for this new stage, the senator stressed the need for greater openness and freedom, in addition to addressing problems such as the economic situation of public companies that generate losses, such as AFE and mail.
In security issues, Heber mentioned the importance of interparty consensus and stressed that violence in society is linked to drug trafficking, a problem that aims to face through stricter legislation. He also expressed his support for the future Minister of the Interior, Carlos Negro, wishing him success in his management.
