A tragic river accident was about to collect dozens of lives on Sunday, February 16, when the boat Adrián Estafany Mayfer I He sank while navigating the Tambo River, on the route between Puerto Ocopa (Province of Satipo, Junín) and Atalaya (Atalaya province, Ucayali).
The wreck occurred around 2:30 p.m., about six kilometers from the Poyeni community, in Ucayali, according to the Atalaya disaster risks to the Andean agency. The passengers, after the sinking of the boat, were trapped on the banks of the river waiting for help.
In response to the emergency, two helicopters of the Army of Peru, from the VRAEM base, were mobilized to evacuate those affected to the city of Mazamari, in Junín.
The bad climatic conditions prevented landing in Atalaya, forced to redirect the rescue operation.
In addition, rescue brigades supported by river vessels transferred to the remaining passengers to Atalaya.
Personnel of the District Municipality of Río Tambo also joined the work, expediting the assistance to those affected.
