The Vatican Press Office reported that Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized since Friday, February 14 at the Gemeli Hospital in Rome after suffering an alleged bronchitis, currently suffers from a “polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract”, which requires varying the Medical treatment that is supplied to the pontiff.
In the statement emanating from the Holy See, it is indicated that Pope Francis will receive a modified therapy after a series of tests that lead the doctors to determine that the clinical picture of the Bishop of Rome is “complex” and that It requires an adequate “hospitalization.”
“The results of the tests carried out in recent days and today have demonstrated a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract that has forced to further modify the therapy. All tests carried out so far are indicative of a complex clinical picture that will require adequate hospital internment, ”says the text published on Monday, February 17.

For his part, the spokesman for the press office of the Holy See, Matteo Bruni, said that the Pope rested “well” during his third night in the Gemelli and that he took his normal breakfast. In addition, he said that Francisco is “under the control of the hospital”, so he pointed out that at the time there are no forecasts that hospital discharge is granted and that it is still in the scheme of “absolute rest.”
