Tomas Machac Conquest First Title of UTS in Mexico

Guadalajara, Jal.- Like last summer, at the Paris Olympic Games, the Czech tennis player Tomas Machac was dying gold again in Guadalajara.

With a blunt exhibition of five wins and 285 points in his favor, Tomas Machac became the first Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) champion in Mexico and Latin America in general, after the event held in Guadalajara from February 14 to 16.

He defeated the Belgian David Goffin in the final in three quarters in a row, remembering that the innovative UTS format gives as the winner of a party who wins three quarters of four possible (with a duration of eight minutes each).

This was event 13 in the history of UTS, alternative tennis league created by Patrick Mouratoglou in 2020. Guadalajara had the special ingredient of being the first headquarters in Latin America, as the previous ones were between Europe and the United States.

Tomas Machac was one of the guests on the official billboard, remembering that before the beginning they had to withdraw due to injury Nick Kyrgios, Tehanasi Kokkinakis and Denis Shapovalov, giving entry to David Goffin, Richard Gasquet and Fabio Fognini.

Born in Beroun, a town at approximately 30 kilometers from Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, Tomas Machac is one of the youngest novelties of the ATP Tour and sensation of his country.

He became a professional tennis player in 2017 and currently has the best ranking of his career in ATP, being number 24. Curiously that is also his age, because he belongs to the 2000 generation, in which Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner stand out.

“I came here thinking that it would not be easy, there were some moments when I thought I could not continue. This format is not easy, breathing was heavy, ”said Machac, who had never played a UTS tournament before.

“I didn’t feel very good with altitude, it was not easy, I was dealing with those in the previous games. I was surprised to come, I tried to enjoy and, at the same time, breathe in the best way. This shows me that I can prepare for something I didn’t know. ”

Tomas Machac has not yet won a singles tournament at the ATP Tour. His only star was double with Chinese Zhang Zhizhen in the 250 Marseille open in February 2024.

On the other hand, he reached the cusp of his still young story in professional tennis last summer, winning the gold medal for Czech Republic in the Mixed double branch of the Olympic Games in Paris. His partner was Katerina Siniakova and together they beat the representatives of China, Wang Xinyu and, curiously, Zhang Zhizhen.

Now Machac joins the list of champions in the five years of existence of the UTS, which includes: Matteo Berrettini, Alexander Zverev, Alex de Miñaur, Corentin Moutet, Wu Yibing, Andrey Rublev, Jack Draper, Gael Monfils and Ben Shelton.

He received a curious ray -shaped trophy called Zeus, in addition to $ 420,000, according to figures published on the official UTS site.

That amount represents even more, than some 250 category tournaments of the ATP Tour. For example, in the recent Open of Delray Beach, Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic received $ 103,455; In the Argentine Open, the Brazilian Joao Fonseca received 100,160.

“Something I was looking for today was to win the final, I am happy with the result. Now it’s time to check how much I won. I was not thinking about that at the beginning of the tournament, ”said Tomas Machac with a conference after its UTS title.

The next programmed UTS event will be in Nimes, France, between April 4 and 5. At the moment there are no other officially stipulated in the calendar of your website. In 2024 they held four events in total during the year.
