Cuban writer and critic Francisco López Sácha died this Sunday in Havana.
Sacha, as was known in the literary environment, died a few days after turning 75 and at a time when the International Book Fairwhose previous edition had been dedicated.
Press reports do not mention the cause of death, but unofficial publications realize that they suffered from cancer.
“His death deprives the Cuban culture of one of his most lucid and passionate voices,” points Cubasíwhich considers his work as a “reference in the narrative panorama of the island” and highlights in it the “deep exploration of the human condition, art and identity.”

Born in Manzanillo on February 22, 1950, López Sacha stood out as a narrator – and in particular as a storyteller – as well as essayist and critic.
Bachelor of Letters and theater Specialist, he was also a tireless literary and musical promoter, a professor of generations at the Higher Institute of Art and the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños, and founder of the Literary Training Workshop Nonelio Jorge Cardoso with the also deceased Eduardo Heras León.
His appreciated literary work includes novels such as The Birthday of Fire and The softest of all summers (2022) and stories books such as Discovery of blue (1987), The Division of Waters (1987) and Variations to the art of escape (2011).
In addition, he published essay and historiographic volumes about narrative and music, such as The new Cuban story and Rock and roll prisonerand anthologies like Angels fable —There has Salvador Redonet, and The island told, The contemporary Cuban story.

During his literary career, Sacha deserved awards such as the bearded Cayman, Reason, the Gaceta de Cuba, Alejo Carpentier and the Critics Award (2017), and recognitions such as the distinction by national culture.
His death has dismayed his colleagues and readers, inside and outside Cuba, and has motivated numerous messages of pain and condolences to his relatives and relatives, to whom he joins the one of Oncuba.
