Rio de Janeiro was officially confirmed as the headquarters of the BRICS leaders in 2025. The meeting will be on July 6 and 7. The announcement was made after Mayor Eduardo Paes meeting, with Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, and representatives of the Federal Government, on Saturday (15), at the City Palace in Botafogo.

On January 1 this year, Brazil took over the rotating presidency of BRICS, an international cooperation group formed by developing countries, currently composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Emirates United and Iran.
For the City Hall, the choice of Rio de Janeiro as headquarters of the summit reinforces the city as an important strategic center for international events. Heads of state, ministers and representatives of local governments, as well as members of the BRICS Member Countries, will be gathered at the summit. The event occurs only a year after the city hosts the G20 summit, further consolidating Rio as an international diplomacy hub.
The BRICS leaders’ summit will contribute to the strengthening of international relations, promoting cultural, commercial and tourist exchanges between Brazil, the BRICS countries and the rest of the world, according to the municipal executive.
On his social networks, Mayor Eduardo Paes posted a video alongside chancellor Mauro Viera commenting on the choice. “We feel very proud to represent all Brazilians with the beauties of our city, with their challenges, no one is naive, innocent here. But it is a very special city that we are very proud. Rio once again capital of the world, with G20 last year, now BRICS and maybe I can’t sign the presidential decree of Rio’s Honorary Capital, ”he said.
“We will receive heads of state from the 20 countries that make up BRICS in the categories of full members and partners in which we will make important decisions for the development of these countries, the cooperation and the improvement of living conditions of the inhabitants of these countries. Once again Rio de Janeiro will be the scene of a very important international meeting, ”added Chancellor Mauro Vieira.
The Rio de Janeiro City Hall has created the Rio Brics Committee, which will be responsible for the elaboration of the “Brics Rio Calendar”, bringing together initiatives and activities by the end of 2025. The Committee will also participate in forums and commissions organized by various spheres of government and society Civil, national and international, addressing group issues.
